So the other day I had a great opportunity to visit Hackney Downs Studios (shout
to London Metropolitan University) !!
It was a lovely autumn day when we (twenty-ish fresher) headed to Hackney.
Abbey greeted us a the door and dragged us inside. And that is where adventure began!
Annabel and Bethan
Two lovely ladies (Annabel and Bethan) welcomed us to their studio and gave us a
quick interview and let us to have a look at their personal work space, that to be
fair, looked amazing and really well-organized even though it was messy, but messy
in the creative way.
They both studied different things (architecture and design) that is way working
together for them must to be really interesting and much easier, because,
in my opinion they fulfill each other in every day basis.
They have been in Hackney Downs Studios for two years now!
Good luck girls with future works!
Anthony and Ed
(Colophon – Foundry)
Another studio we went to it was a typography one. Anthony and Ed welcomed us to
their bright, cozy and really well organised studio showed us around and gave us a
Both of them have been working in Hackney Downs Studios since 2013 April and they
are the best friends! As they said it is quite hard to divide job and friendship,
but everything is possible if you are strict about it. A good thing that helps to
stay friend is as they have said is to share tasks. Both of them are doing different
things and interested in opposite ways of art. I believe spending ten hours
(sometimes more) must to be a tricky task.
Even though guys are self-taught they have been working for companies such as
Google and Grey Goose. They are such a good example or a hard work and results
you could get.
After I have left Hackney Downs Studios I felt like one day I would love to work
with people like them. There are 135 different studios in H. D. S. and every single
person there is interested in different kind of stuff and there are so many
possibilities in collaborations and creativity!
